FLEX
SCHEDULING FOR 2009-10 SENIORS
What do we mean by flexible
scheduling?
Flex scheduling is when you do not follow the regular school day schedule of
7:30 – 2:30.
What are the options?
DHS is going to offer periods 9 and 10.
You may select period 9 or 10, or both, depending on your courses and
preferences.
Does this mean I will be in school
longer than I am now?
NO, NO, NO ! If you elect to schedule a
class during period 9, or 10, or both, you will arrive later in the
morning. For example, if you elect
period 9, you will not arrive at school until period 2, so you would attend
classes/lunch during periods 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 (8:28-3:15). Just
think, you can sleep in and not have to wait in a line of traffic early in the
morning!
What courses will be offered?
DHS may be offering Senior English and Senior Social Studies next year during
periods 9 and 10, but student interest will be a deciding factor in this
decision.
What about transportation?
Students who select flexible scheduling will need to provide their own
transportation to and from school.
What approval do I need?
Students who select flexible scheduling will need parental permission in order
to be scheduled for this option.
I participate in after school
activities, can I still enroll in flexible scheduling?
It depends. If you are on a sports team,
you would not be able to schedule classes during periods 9 and 10 when you have
practice. If you plan to join clubs and
other after school activities that meet for 30-45 minutes, you could feasibly
schedule period 10 for a class, with period 9 free to attend clubs or other
meetings (or meet with a teacher for extra help, etc.).
If I am interested, what do I need to
do?
Sign up for either English Level 01 or Honors or Social Studies Level 01 or
Honors as part of the course selection process.
The flex courses will be a separate selection on the online course
selection website.
