SCHEDULING INFORMATION

PREREQUISITES

Progressing to the next level:

Throughout this handbook, some courses have prerequisites.  Students must meet the prerequisites as listed in the course descriptions.

Students should obtain a grade of “C” or better in a prerequisite course in order to move on to an advanced course.  While a "D" is a passing grade, it indicates the student is not adequately prepared for more advanced work.  If a student wishes to take an advanced course and earned below a “C” in the prerequisite, the student may remediate to improve his/her proficiency.  Requests to override a prerequisite will not be considered.

If a student wishes to change levels (level 02 to Level 01), the student should have an “A” average in the prerequisite course and the current teacher’s recommendation.

Students may not take two sequential courses simultaneously.  Students failing a required course prerequisite must repeat the course in the regular school program or through an approved make-up alternative.  If this is not accomplished, graduation will be delayed.

Testing Out:  Students may test out of a course for placement.  The student must pass a test or tests to the satisfaction of the department.  Other assignments may be required to demonstrate a full understanding of the course content.

COURSE CHANGES

Students’ final opportunity to make schedule changes is Friday, March 28, 2008.  This is the last date that student-initiated changes can be considered.

Once the school year begins, if a student is experiencing academic difficulty in a course, the following steps must be taken prior to the administrator’s considering a course change:

·          Parent Teacher conference to address concerns.

·          Teacher and student must work together.

·          Student must show evidence of making effort to improve (seeking extra help, peer tutoring. etc.).

·          Parent/Teacher/Student/Counselor conference to assess progress

·          Administrative review and decision.

DROPPING COURSES

Any student dropping a course after the first five weeks and meeting the above requirements will receive a “WF” for the year in all courses dropped.
