CURRICULUM ALTERNATIVES
P.R.O.
(Pupils Reaching Out)
Downingtown
High provides this program for senior students to explore career opportunities
not included in the traditional school curriculum. This program allows students to complete
their academic requirements as well as participate in work experience during
the school day. It is designed to help
students to simultaneously develop critical thinking while also gaining
practical career skills. To qualify for
the program, students must obtain a daily job or internship in a local
business.
Career
Experience
The
Career Experience program is designed for highly motivated seniors wishing to
obtain professional work experience.
Students will spend the last month of high school working within a
career setting of their choice. The
student must secure a faculty sponsor and a community sponsor, and the
coordinator must approve the project. A
GPA of 2.5 or a class rank in the upper half of the graduating class is
required.
Early
College Acceptance
Through proper planning and scheduling, a student
can meet the requirements for college admission at the end of the junior
year. The student must receive the
approval of the high school principal and be accepted by a college. It is suggested that the student be in the
top 25% of the class and have College Board scores exceeding 1000. Upon successful completion of the freshman
year at college, the student is awarded a Downingtown High School diploma and
may participate in commencement.
