Welcome!
I hope that you will take some time to explore our site to learn more
about Downingtown’s rich academic atmosphere, robust offerings in the arts,
and storied athletic programs. From kindergarten through twelfth grade, DASD
students are challenged to develop new skills, use their creativity, embrace
diversity, and collaborate on ideas every day.
At Downingtown, we believe that students learn best when they are
engaged. To foster true understanding and mastery of new concepts and
subjects, our talented faculty helps students connect with lessons in
inspiring and imaginative ways. Known as one of the best schools in the
Philadelphia metropolitan area, we continue to seek innovation solutions to
21st century problems.
For example, we are in the process of creating two new schools for our
district, one a much needed third middle school and the other a
break-the-mold 21st Century high school academy geared around S.T.E.M.
preparation.
In true Downingtown spirit, 105 community members are volunteering their
time in eight committees over the course of two-years to create an
extraordinary and unique small high school experience for our students.
In June, 2010 the 1930’s era, WPA Project, Downingtown Junior-Senior High
School will close its doors for renovations, only to reopen the following
year as one of the most innovative high schools in the Philadelphia
area. (Click here to visit our STEM
Academy website.)
The Downingtown Area School District is known for its excellent
schools, hard-working students, involved and caring parents, a supportive
community and dedicated teachers. However rather than me telling you about
our schools, the best way to get to know us is to visit. I encourage you to
meet our warm, supportive school community for yourself.
Please call us to schedule a visit or simply ask a question, please
e-mail our Public Information Director pmcglone@dasd.org
or call us at (610) 269-8460. On behalf of the Board of Education and
everyone at DASD, thank you for visiting our Web site and we look forward to
meeting you.
