What was the DEC originally used for?
1932 – Downingtown builds a High School on Manor Ave, costing $160,000. It held 18 classrooms, a library, shop, home economics suite, gymnasium, auditorium and shower room.

1939 – An athletic field and stadium are added.

1950-51 – 17 more rooms are added at a cost of $360,000.

1952 – Three junior high grades are moved from the West Ward School into the building. It is now the Downingtown Junior/Senior High.

1954 – Enrollment total 878: 496 in grades 7 – 9 and 382 in grades 10 – 12. Capacity 900 students.Classrooms average 22’ by 29” plus larger rooms for art, music science and business ed. Auditorium – capacity of 800.

1955 – 20 additional acres are purchased to add to the 14 original acres.

1960 – New Downingtown Senior High School (DHS West)  is constructed nearby. The Junior/Senior High School becomes the Downingtown Junior High.

1977 – Alterations to Junior High School plus addition of new gymnasium and music section added at a cost of $3,366,258.30.

1997 – Downingtown Middle  and Lionville Middle open in 97-98 school year. DEC becomes a 9th Grade Center

2003 – Building Closed

2007 - Reopens as Downingtown Education Center
